iaedp Certification iaedp established the certification process to promote standards of excellence within the field of eating disorders. Professionals who demonstrate clinical expertise through education, experience and a rigorous examination are eligible for certification. Designation as a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) in mental health or a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist in Nutrition (CEDSN) will enhance your marketability to managed care, the consumer and all other referral sources. Individuals with the Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS or CEDSN) designations are health care professionals who have met rigorous educational requirements, have accumulated a minimum number of hours of qualifying work experience, have successfully passed a written examination covering the eating disorders field, have made a commitment to stay abreast of current developments in the field through Continuing Education, and have agreed to comply with the Association's Ethical Principles. IAEDP Certification Renewal Conditions of Renewal of Certification: The initial designations are granted for a period of two years. Thereafter, those who wish to continue to officially carry these designations must apply for and be granted renewals. The designation will be recalled if three months has elapsed since expiration and the Applicant for Renewal of Certification (Appendix E) has not been submitted. The certificate holder may request that the certification be inactive for a period not to exceed one year. Applicants for renewal should apply at least three months prior to the expiration of their current designation, in order to continue to carry the designation continuously, without interruption. Those who apply later that the date of the expiration of their current designation are subject to a late fee, added to the renewal fee. If more than one year has elapsed since expiration the applicant will be subject to reinstatement fee in addition to renewal fee. Persons previously certified may apply for renewal at any time from three months prior to expiration of current designation up to two months following expiration (a two month grace period). If more than one year has elapsed since expiration, the applicant must submit a complete application as if applying for the first time. In some cases, exceptions may be made because of hardship, but certified persons must notify the Association of the hardship at the time it occurs, rather than waiting until the grace period has elapsed.
